Melanie L. Pertillar
Our founder, Melanie, built the RAHCo. brand with the mission to LISTEN. She believes in showing everyone they have their own rhythm and balancing that with professionalism.
At dance she is "Miss Melanie," at other work spaces, she is Melanie, if you know her well, she is an endearing "Miss Mel", regardless of where you meet her. She is known for bringing a warm energy and rhythm to any environment she enters.
"Life is a stage" she says...."My eyes see everything in choreography. It's fluid, it's motion, it's in counts of 8. Preparation is key, coming from a genuine place is fundamental, and the show must always go on, regardless of what comes up, we find a solution. It's a non-negotiable." says the Founder.
"As a wife and mother of children with culturally diverse roots, it is of the utmost importance to maintain a level of awareness and inclusivity, with self-love at the core of enhancing the lives of others. In the future, the plan is to open a culturally diverse dance school that will be accessible to everyone, regardless of their economic situation."
WHAT MAKES ME UNIQUE?
"I feel the FUSION of my Corporate and Dance background allow me to give a uniquely skilled talent of listening, watching, and then giving back to the client what they are looking for and/or needing to be successful on their stage." - Miss Mel
More on the FUSION below...
Starting at age the age of 14, Melanie began her career working in law offices as a receptionist. This is where she became intrigued by law and developed a passion for the legal system.
She pursued an education to become a legal assistant and began working at the largest law firm in Boston at the age of 19 in the Litigation Department. For years she commuted to the city and eventually made her way back to her home town working in a law firm for criminal defense attorneys.
Being back in her home town, also meant she was back to her roots where the love of dance began. Years later her mentor offered an opportunity to step back onto the dance floor choreographing and sharing the art of dance. She said yes!
Fast forward Melanie stepped away from the legal forum and took on more creative roles that involved marketing. Locally she worked for a Software Company supporting the VP of Marketing/Sales as her coordinator. This included her sales team. Another highlight of her career was becoming the only regional Marketing and Events Coordinator with Sephora in Boston, Ma working directly with Brands and assisting with all new product launches and coordinating regional conferences.
In order to manage different personalities, multi-task, problem-solve, be creative, listen to what was needed, Melanie's dance and choreography experience became extremely useful to put professional practices into place and create processes and procedures that created a rhythm in the workplace that helped focus, work flow, and execution happen.
Miss Mel began showing signs of rhythm from the moment she was born according to her family. She made her official stage debut at the age of 3 and showed no signs of stopping, nor being shy. She gravitated towards the spotlight. Her mentor, the late Cynthia Buonfiglio, took her under her wing as she studied ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, lyrical. She studied hip-hop at the Jeannette Niell Dance School in Boston, traveled to local and out of state (L.A.) conferences and workshops with prominent names such as Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio, Brian Friedman, Cris Judd, and more.
"Miss Melanie" has always been able to connect with her students and create a level of trust, which in turn created a bonds that to this day her younger students, now adults with children of their own, seem to cherish.
"Everyone learns differently, my job as an instructor was to ensure I found a way to tap into the individual learning style for everyone and have patience. To show everyone how to find the groove and stay in that pocket." Melanie went on to share "tap would be my favorite to showcase RHYTHM. I would often tell my students that it didn't matter how many dancers we had on the floor, it should always sound like we have ONE. We had to all work together and find our RHYTHM."
In order to manage a classroom, showcases, studio management, the corporate experience Melanie had became an extremely useful took for professional practices for processes and procedures to put into place.
